Earning this associate degree fulfills the lower-division prerequisites for a psychology major, specialized psychology track, or similar degree program at participating California State University (CSU) institutions. After transferring to an affiliated CSU campus, graduates will need to complete a maximum of 60 additional units to earn their bachelor's degree, though some campuses may require extra lower-division coursework. This degree might not satisfy transfer requirements for non-participating CSU campuses or institutions outside the CSU system. Prospective students should meet with a MiraCosta counselor to explore the optimal transfer pathway for psychology majors and identify participating CSU locations. Graduates of this program will gain the ability to conduct psychological research, including performing literature reviews, developing hypotheses, designing studies, addressing ethical considerations, selecting statistical methods, and presenting findings in APA format.
