Students who earn this associate degree will fulfill the lower-division prerequisites for an American Studies program, a specialization within American Studies, or a comparable degree like Public Administration at participating California State University (CSU) institutions. After transferring to a CSU campus, students will need to complete a maximum of 60 additional units to earn their bachelor's degree, though some universities may require extra lower-division coursework. This degree might not suit students planning to attend non-participating CSU campuses or institutions outside the CSU system. For guidance on the optimal transfer path for American Studies or Public Administration majors and to identify participating CSU campuses, students should meet with a MiraCosta counselor. Graduates of this program will gain foundational knowledge of U.S. legal principles and their application to modern social challenges, preparing them for transfer to CSU bachelor's programs in American Studies, Public Administration, or related fields.
