The Ornamental Horticulture field explores the artistic and scientific aspects of plant cultivation. MiraCosta's Horticulture program covers sustainable landscape design, installation, and upkeep, along with nursery operations, organic farming, and viticulture studies. Enrolled students pursue horticulture classes to meet degree prerequisites, obtain career-focused certifications, acquire CEUs for professional licensing, or satisfy general education needs. Potential career paths span nursery operations, urban farming, landscape architecture, irrigation systems and water conservation, landscape planning and implementation, turf management for sports facilities, urban tree care, horticultural retail, orchard and vineyard supervision, and wine production. Learners can achieve an associate degree by finishing a specialized certificate program and completing MiraCosta College's general education requirements for an Associate in Arts degree (refer to Associate Degrees section).
