The Italian studies program provides foundational coursework for students aiming to transfer and complete a bachelor's degree in Italian. Those pursuing this associate degree or transfer pathway may need to fulfill additional requirements specific to their intended university, as California State Universities and University of California campuses often have distinct admission and major preparation criteria. MiraCosta College advises students to consult with an academic counselor to outline necessary courses and create a customized transfer plan. Graduates of this program will develop proficiency in conversational Italian about social topics, cultural works, and themes covered in introductory and intermediate courses, mastering vocabulary, grammar, and pronunciation equivalent to two years of study. They'll demonstrate comprehension of authentic Italian materials addressing these subjects, and will be able to compose analytical essays comparing cultural elements while applying their acquired language skills.
