The Dance program provides foundational training for students aiming to transfer to a four-year institution to complete a bachelor's degree in dance. Those pursuing this associate degree or transfer pathway may need to fulfill supplementary requirements or electives specified by their target university, as California State Universities and University of California campuses often have distinct admission criteria and major preparation expectations. Since most dance programs conduct entrance auditions, students should take upper-level dance technique classes. It's recommended that students consult with Dance faculty and a MiraCosta College counselor to determine necessary coursework and establish a formal transfer strategy. Graduates of this program will gain the ability to analyze, construct, and perform dance sequences by applying core compositional elements of time, space, and energy; develop knowledge of dance history, appreciation, and global cultural contexts; and demonstrate proficiency in dance technique and body alignment.
