The Creative Writing MFA program at Minnesota State University, Mankato is designed by and for poets, nonfiction writers, and fiction authors. We foster a dynamic literary environment through faculty mentorship from acclaimed writers, career advancement resources, and community connections. Nestled in southern Minnesota, our program immerses students in a thriving arts community with deep-rooted artistic traditions and support.
This three-year MFA program focuses on fiction, poetry, and creative nonfiction through workshop-based classes, craft studies, and specialized courses like Short Story History and Major Writers.
Students gain practical experience by contributing to our publications - The Blue Earth Review literary journal and The Corresponder, a biannual Minnesota authors showcase. Additional opportunities include producing The Weekly Reader author interviews on KMSU radio. Our program also organizes the Good Thunder Reading Series, bringing renowned writers like Ilya Kaminsky, Ross Gay, and Roxane Gay for workshops, discussions, and public readings.
