This program equips educators to instruct students with mild to moderate learning challenges, emotional/behavioral conditions, autism spectrum disorders, and developmental disabilities. It trains new teachers for modern classrooms where special education professionals frequently encounter diverse learning needs.
Participants gain the skills to become special education teachers for students with mild to moderate disabilities and qualify for licensure as Special Education: Academic and Behavioral Strategist educators.
The curriculum aligns with licensure requirements set by the Professional Educator Licensing and Standards Board (PELSB). Using a cohort-based approach for undergraduate training, all students from the same academic year form a unified group. Cohort members take the same set of courses simultaneously. Applications are accepted during fall semester, with both online and in-person cohorts launching in spring. Prospective students should apply when they've nearly completed or finished all general education requirements. All applicants are strongly advised to consult the Program Coordinator for details about the program and admission guidance.
