MSU's Educational Leadership master's program equips students for school administration positions while offering hands-on learning experiences aligned with Educational Leadership Constituent Council guidelines. Participants collaborate in informal groups to address real-world school challenges, frequently in authentic educational environments. The Master of Education degree specializing in Educational Leadership readies graduates for administrative roles, incorporating National Educational Leadership Preparation (NELP) and Texas Education Agency (TEA) standards into its curriculum.
Through cohort-based learning, students implement leadership theories to solve contemporary school problems, typically in practical settings. Graduates qualify for Texas Principal Certification after passing the mandatory TExES exam and completing two years of teaching. Those holding existing master's degrees can pursue principal certification through a non-degree track. Program advisors guide certification candidates through necessary coursework not previously completed during their master's studies. While research courses (6 credit hours) aren't mandatory, practical field experience is essential. The non-degree certification pathway allows master's degree holders to fulfill principal certification requirements, with advisors tailoring course selections based on prior graduate work. Practical training remains compulsory, though research components are waived.
