The West College of Education at Midwestern State University has earned accreditation from the Council for Accreditation of Educator Preparation (CAEP). The EdD program aligns with National Educational Leadership Preparation standards, created through collaboration with key stakeholders nationwide. Participants will join informal cohorts to implement leadership concepts in real-world school environments, addressing contemporary educational challenges. Graduates qualify for Texas Superintendent Certification after completing required coursework, practical experience, and passing the state exam.
Prospective students must satisfy both university and West College of Education admission criteria. The Educational Leadership EdD program consists of 54 credit hours (57 for superintendent certification), emphasizing competencies needed for district-level administration. Key learning outcomes encompass: understanding educational theories, applying research methods to improve practices, and developing district-wide leadership capabilities.
The curriculum features five foundational courses covering theoretical, cultural, and legal aspects of education policy, plus six specialized district leadership classes. Four research-focused courses lead to dissertation completion. While core and research components follow field standards, the district leadership courses offer specialized training for those seeking system-wide influence in school districts.
