The Kimbell School of Geosciences serves as the academic hub for Midwestern State University's Environmental Science undergraduate program, along with its bachelor's and master's programs in earth and surface geosciences, promoting both education and innovative research. At Midwestern State University, the Kimbell School equips students with learning experiences that ready them for careers and advanced studies. The curriculum integrates cutting-edge technology, current knowledge, and research methodologies, blending hands-on fieldwork with traditional classroom learning. Alumni enter professions ranging from water resource management and environmental consulting to mining, oil exploration, scientific research, and teaching. With deep expertise in Earth's systems, MSU Texas geoscientists help sustain vital resources while advancing planetary knowledge.
The Geosciences Track builds upon foundational geology studies and faculty expertise. This program guides students in examining minerals, rock formations, fossils, sediments, mineral resources, landforms, geophysical methods, and spatial data analysis. Learners can choose elective courses in specialized areas like petroleum geology, ocean science, or climate studies. Combined with MSU Texas' comprehensive general education, this creates adaptable graduates prepared for modern societal demands. The 121-credit program spans eight semesters plus a summer field component, leading to careers in petroleum analysis, resource conservation, environmental remediation, and more. This degree also establishes a strong foundation for graduate studies and specialized roles in global exploration or scientific research.
