The Department of Fisheries and Wildlife provides both thesis and non-thesis Master of Science (M.S.) options along with a Doctoral (Ph.D.) program. Recognized as a premier institution, the department excels in preparing fishery and wildlife experts for roles in research, management, education, outreach, and advisory services. Our master's program alumni secure positions across various sectors, including government agencies at all levels, private companies, cultural institutions, tribal groups, and environmental firms.
Doctoral graduates frequently join prestigious university faculties and are equally competitive in non-academic roles. Currently, around 100 graduate students are enrolled, with most receiving financial support through assistantships. Student research covers broad topics in limnology, fisheries, and wildlife management, including human interaction studies. These initiatives utilize cutting-edge technology, exceptional library resources, university field stations, and Michigan's rich natural environment. Additionally, students participate in global research endeavors and share findings with diverse audiences at local, national, and international forums.
