We take great pride in our thorough curriculum, globally distinguished faculty, and the inclusive setting where our doctoral students develop. A cornerstone of our Accounting Ph.D. program is the close partnership between candidates and professors. We carefully maintain an enrollment of about 12 full-time, on-campus students, ensuring optimal faculty-student engagement, teamwork, and financial support for all participants.
Our department earned 14th place in Brigham Young University's 2021 accounting faculty publication rankings (considering all works published since 1990) and secured 15th position in the 2019 Public Accounting Report's evaluation of Ph.D. programs.
Graduates of our Accounting Ph.D. program achieve remarkable professional accomplishments. They serve as accounting faculty at prestigious universities nationwide and have gained national acclaim for advancing accounting scholarship, education, and professional standards. Michigan State alumni occupy endowed accounting chairs, edit top-tier research publications, and have authored some of America's most popular accounting textbooks. They also lead major accounting departments, serve as business school deans, and hold influential roles in shaping national accounting policies. Our doctoral graduates stand out through their frequent participation on editorial boards of leading accounting journals and their consistent research publication success. This commitment to academic excellence defines the essence of MSU's accounting doctoral initiatives.
