Studio art students investigate and produce works through the vocabulary of two- and three-dimensional forms, spatial relationships, and temporal elements across diverse mediums such as ceramics, digital arts, graphic design, painting, photography, printmaking, and sculpture. Undergraduates can pursue two distinct studio art degree paths: the bachelor of arts, which emphasizes liberal arts, and the bachelor of fine arts, a professional track designed for those pursuing art careers or advanced studies.
Ceramics education extends beyond skill acquisition to encompass the fusion of technical mastery with critical art analysis. Our curriculum fosters a studio environment where theoretical understanding meets creative practice, connecting aesthetic, cultural, and historical contexts to artistic development. The program features both traditional and innovative ceramic approaches, including functional ware, sculptural forms, architectural elements, experimental techniques, and digital applications. Our comprehensive facilities support extensive clay and glaze experimentation at all levels, applied through various firing methods like earthenware, raku, stoneware, and wood firing. Students develop personalized working methods—from handbuilding to wheel throwing—while being encouraged to develop individual artistic voices that engage with contemporary ceramic discourse.
