Social studies combines insights from social sciences and humanities to foster civic understanding. In schools, it offers an organized exploration drawing from fields like anthropology, economics, history, political science, and sociology, alongside relevant elements from mathematics and natural sciences. Its core mission is equipping young individuals to make thoughtful choices as engaged citizens in our diverse democracy and interconnected world. You could join the ranks of exceptional social studies educators who provide students with comprehensive societal perspectives. Learners may also advance their studies toward leadership positions in education.

The Integrated Social Studies Education program awards a Bachelor of Science Degree in Education. Recognized by Ohio's Department of Education, it qualifies graduates to instruct grades 7-12 in Social Studies. Alongside Miami Plan requirements, participants complete coursework in Social Studies and Educational Psychology. The curriculum includes observation and teaching practice in various school settings, culminating in a 15-week immersive student teaching placement where candidates collaborate with experienced educators, gradually taking full instructional responsibility for secondary classrooms.
