The CIDA-accredited Bachelor of Fine Arts in Interior Design provides a professional undergraduate program that equips graduates to launch their careers directly or continue with advanced studies.
The Interior Design major follows a structured curriculum leading to a BFA degree. First-year students in this program take foundational courses in environmental design and graphic media alongside Architecture majors. In the second year, Interior Design students build core knowledge in visual communication techniques, architectural history, structural systems, and materials while starting specialized studies in human-centered design, interior materials, and spatial planning.
Advanced coursework focuses on complex interior design challenges, mechanical and lighting systems, furniture creation, interior history and theory, construction documentation, and professional standards. The program culminates in a senior Capstone project where each student researches, plans, and solves a sophisticated interior design challenge through self-directed work.
You'll experience a balanced education combining liberal arts with professional training. You'll learn to address aesthetic, social, technical, and visual aspects of interior design challenges. Through independent projects and research, you'll gain both specialized expertise and comprehensive understanding of the field. Many alumni join commercial design firms, architecture practices, or furniture companies, while others pursue careers in facilities management, heritage conservation, retail, or education.
