The Housing, Community, and Economic Development (HCED) initiative works toward fair and inclusive growth across U.S. neighborhoods, cities, and regions. Its goal is to equip professionals with the expertise to guide public, private, and nonprofit organizations in fostering equitable progress. Rooted in faculty dedication to advancing opportunities for marginalized populations, HCED prioritizes collaborative relationships with communities spearheading local transformation. Faculty and students frequently explore global economic trends alongside national and state policies. For years, HCED members have influenced housing, economic, workforce, and community development through policy, practice, and research. The program increasingly intersects with public health initiatives, environmental stewardship, and digital inclusion projects. HCED fosters adaptable learning methods, training students to excel as versatile professionals—whether as policy analysts, advocates, mediators, program designers, or developers. Doctoral candidates are prepared to lead innovative research and education in the field.
