The MFA in Filmmaking equips emerging filmmakers to thrive in an industry that's growing beyond traditional hubs like Los Angeles and New York, while fostering connections within the global film community.

Film is a universal artistic medium - both refined and accessible. It stirs emotions, provokes thought, and inspires action. Movies make us weep, chuckle, shout, and sometimes reconsider our lives. They serve as bridges between strangers - "What's your favorite movie?" is perhaps the most universal icebreaker. Cinema crafts collective stories that unite people worldwide. Today, while major studios dominate the market, independent creators armed with just smartphones and laptops can produce works with profound cultural resonance.

Combining practical training with special partnerships including Johns Hopkins University's Film and Media Studies program and the Maryland Film Festival, this MFA program readies students for lasting careers during this era of industry transformation.
