The master's degree curriculum, combining coursework and research, is tailored through discussions with the student's advisory committee. Candidates should select courses that align with their academic history and research focus. A mandatory component includes accumulating one year of teaching experience equivalent. The program requires completion of 30 credit hours: 21 in coursework and research, 3 in seminar participation, and 6 dedicated to thesis development, with at least 18 credits in biological sciences. Enrollment in BIOL 6952 Department Colloquium is required every term. Students must present a thesis proposal to their committee and defend it successfully, which serves as their qualifying examination. Program completion involves submitting an approved thesis and delivering a public seminar on the research.
