Physical therapists assist individuals in recovering from injuries, regaining mobility, and maintaining wellness. As specialists in movement and rehabilitation, they support patients through all stages of functional recovery. These healthcare professionals work to correct physical limitations, overcome functional challenges, and reintegrate individuals into daily life while considering biological, psychological, and social aspects. If you're drawn to helping people, have scientific curiosity, and aspire to work in healthcare, a career as a physical therapist (PT) might be ideal. Our faculty consists of clinically certified specialists, award-winning educators, and leaders in rehabilitation research. Students benefit from direct clinical exposure and research involvement. PT students obtain hands-on training through our ComMUnity Clinic volunteer program and rotations at our comprehensive Physical Therapy Clinic or Neuro Recovery Clinic. Our research facilities explore diverse rehabilitation areas, from fundamental animal studies to community-based investigations. Current faculty research focuses on stroke and spinal cord recovery, patient outcomes, health technology evaluation, motor control, muscle function, chronic pain management, sports biomechanics, exercise responses across age and gender, and athlete health. Research opportunities include undergraduate internships, paid technician roles, summer research intensives, and our Exercise and Rehabilitation Science Graduate Program. Ambitious students can pursue a combined DPT-Ph.D. pathway to become practitioner-researchers. Explore faculty profiles for research laboratory connections.
