Using incredibly durable composite materials and delicate fiber optics, from massive earth-moving equipment to tiny surgical robots, mechanical engineering students influence nearly every aspect of modern life, from current vehicles to future spacecraft. At Marquette, these students create and construct solar-powered boats and mini-Indy race cars that compete globally against both university and corporate teams. Starting on day one, mechanical engineering majors gain practical experience in innovation and discovery learning laboratories. Opportunities also exist to work in specialized labs covering thermal-fluid science, machine design, mechatronics, robotics, manufacturing and automation, material science, and engines. Through elective courses, concentrate on material science along with the design of machine components and robotics. Additionally, you can pursue a minor in business administration or computer science without overloading your academic schedule.
