The department provides a five-year combined B.S./M.S. program called the Accelerated Degree Program (ADP). This initiative allows students to obtain both a bachelor of science in civil engineering or construction engineering and a master of science in civil engineering within five years (or six with a co-op). Current undergraduate students in the civil, construction and environmental engineering department at Marquette University (with a minimum 3.500 GPA) can apply for the ADP in their junior year. Applicants must submit a Graduate School application, express interest in the ADP, and fulfill all other admission requirements outlined in the Graduate Bulletin's Application Requirements.
While finishing their undergraduate studies, students enroll in master's level courses during their senior year. The rest of the graduate coursework is completed in the fifth year. Up to 6 credits can count toward both undergraduate and graduate degrees, provided these are graduate-level courses (numbered 5000 or higher). Students are highly advised to choose Plan A (thesis option), starting thesis research in the summer after junior year. Research continues during the summer between senior and fifth years, throughout the fifth year, and concludes with a written thesis and defense. Plan B (coursework option) accelerated programs are also available. Additional information is in the Graduate Bulletin.
