The Middle East and North Africa (MENA) region spans from Mauritania in the west to Iran and Central Asia in the east, bordered by the Mediterranean to the north and the Sahara and Sahel regions to the south. The MENA Studies program examines this globally significant area and its global communities through linguistic, cultural, historical, religious, political, social, and economic lenses. Combining Arabic language proficiency with multidisciplinary coursework, the program investigates the Arab world's history, social structures, economic systems, religious thought, philosophical traditions, and media landscape. Offering diverse elective options, the program allows students to customize their academic path based on personal interests and professional aspirations. Through interdisciplinary methods and specialized analytical approaches, students gain comprehensive insight into the political, economic, gender-related, social, and cultural forces shaping the Middle East and North Africa. The MENA Studies program enhances Marquette University's outstanding academic resources, providing opportunities for undergraduate research with distinguished faculty, international study programs, ROTC participation, and practical experience through internships.
