The Early Childhood Education program equips future teachers with the expertise and practical skills needed to support and champion young learners from infancy through age eight. This is achieved by blending child development theories with hands-on classroom experience. The curriculum integrates guidelines from both the National Association for the Education of Young Children (NAEYC) and Michigan's Early Childhood Standards of Quality, teaching students to design and evaluate learning spaces, resources, activities, and engagements that nurture children's emotional, social, intellectual, and physical growth. When paired with the Comprehensive Elementary Education major, this coursework fulfills Michigan's certification requirements for K-8 teaching credentials, including the Early Childhood ZS endorsement covering both general and special education.
