The Interdisciplinary Neuroscience Majors and Minor offer students exceptional adaptability: those dedicated to comprehensive neuroscience training can select between two specialized tracks. The cognitive/behavioral path concentrates on neural processing results and circuit-level functions, while the molecular/cellular track explores genetic, biochemical, and cellular foundations of nervous system development and operation. For students pursuing other disciplines but wanting significant neuroscience exposure, a minor is available. All three pathways mandate three foundational courses: Introduction to Neuroscience, Neurobiology, and Behavioral and Cognitive Neuroscience. Following these, students can select from various advanced lectures and laboratory courses covering the discipline. Furthermore, LUC's lake shore faculty includes 12 neuroscientists, opening doors for undergraduate research projects. Annual lectures by LU Medical Center neuroscientists occur at the Lake Shore Campus, and students may also organize research internships with medical school professors.
The B.S. in cognitive/behavioral neuroscience examines the neural foundations of thought and behavior, employing techniques from cognitive psychology, behavioral studies, psychobiology, and computer science to interpret brain-related experimental findings.
