The Film, Television and Media Studies (FTVS) program at LMU enables students to investigate the diverse roles media plays as both a form of personal creativity and a lens for interpreting our world.
This major equips students with essential historical and theoretical frameworks to grasp the field's core concepts while developing analytical skills to assess media's influence on personal perspectives.
Curriculum encourages examination of visual media's movement across international borders and different platforms. By analyzing films/media, engaging in discussions, and completing readings, we broaden students' awareness of diverse cultures, historical narratives, and religious viewpoints, fostering a worldwide outlook.
Participation in LMU's international study opportunities and creative arts electives is strongly recommended to blend analytical and artistic approaches. Suggested creative courses encompass screenwriting (SCWR), production (PROD), audio engineering (RECA), and animation (ANIM) available to all students, along with English department creative writing classes, and non-major offerings in visual arts, music, theater, and dance.
Students are also advised to consider a complementary minor to enhance their FTVS studies. Potential choices include: English, Theatre Arts, Political Science, Psychology, History, Environmental Studies, Philosophy, Theology, Asian Pacific Studies, Modern Languages, Classics and Archaeology, African American Studies, Chicana/o and Latina/o Studies, and Women's and Gender Studies.
