LSU's Electrical and Computer Engineering (ECE) program utilizes scientific and mathematical principles focused on information sensing, transmission, and processing, along with studying the electrical, optical, and magnetic characteristics of materials and electrical energy generation/distribution. The field offers diverse career paths in computing, telecommunications, automation, electronics, and power systems. ECE alumni have achieved success across industries, academic institutions, and startup ventures worldwide. Both faculty and students engage in pioneering research across multiple ECE specialties that significantly influence their fields.

The Electrical & Computer Engineering Division provides Master's and Doctoral degree programs. Research concentrations encompass: Automatic Control (covering system analysis, robust/adaptive systems, fault-tolerant controls, and networked systems), Communications and Signal Processing (including digital/wireless communications, data compression, and image analysis), Computer Systems (focusing on architecture, graphics, distributed computing, embedded systems, and computer vision), Electronics (involving materials science, micro/nano-technologies, photonics, and circuit design), and Power Engineering (addressing power electronics, machine drives, grid stability, renewable energy, and smart grid technologies). Students may also pursue an interdisciplinary specialization in Information Technology.
