The Department of Biological Sciences provides research-focused M.S. and Ph.D. programs in biochemistry. High-achieving students often enroll directly in the Ph.D. track without obtaining a master's degree first. Ph.D. candidates must complete specialized coursework for comprehensive biochemistry training, deliver seminar presentations, and pass qualifying and comprehensive exams. Additionally, doctoral students must conduct original research, evidenced by published work and a dissertation. The M.S. program mandates a thesis along with 30 graduate credit hours, with at least 24 credits from coursework. Over half of these credits must be from 7000-level or higher classes.
These biology degree programs offer adaptable structures to accommodate diverse student needs across modern biological specialties. This adaptability enables students to tailor their coursework to support their specific research objectives.
