The Master of Science (MS) in Biology is a research-focused graduate program where students complete a thesis. As the field of biology advances quickly, students gain insight into core scientific principles and research ethics through hands-on collaboration with faculty in labs, classrooms, and field settings. UNF's Biology Department features its renowned Coastal Biology initiative as one of its flagship programs.
This degree requires 30 total credits, including at least 18 graded course credits and 1 thesis defense credit. Remaining credits may be earned through research projects or seminar participation.

Qualification Requirements

A baccalaureate degree from an accepted institutional accreditor, or its equivalent from a foreign institution, with a GPA of 3.0 or higher in all work attempted in the last 60 credit hours of undergraduate study.
Transcripts, and foreign evaluations if applicable, from all post-secondary institutions attended. Admitted students will be prompted to provide official copies.

The GRE will be waived for UNF undergraduate students with an undergraduate GPA of at least 3.25
3.0 GPA in biology or related major
Identification of research advisor and confirmation of provisional acceptance into that advisor's lab
A minimum TOEFL score of 79 internet-based (550 paper-based or 213 computer-based)
A band score of 6.5 on the University of Cambridge IELTS
