The Master of Music program builds upon students' artistic education through more intensive study and critical examination.

To earn this degree, students must complete at least 30 graduate credit hours (33 for Music Theory). The program allows transferring up to six graduate credits from other institutions, provided they meet LSU's course requirements and receive approval from the relevant Area Coordinator. All degree requirements must be fulfilled within a five-year period.
Entry into this program requires an audition. Specific criteria and processes differ across specializations - performance applicants should review the audition guidelines. While recorded submissions are accepted, in-person auditions are strongly encouraged.

Qualification Requirements

A conferred baccalaureate (or equivalent) from a regionally accredited college or university by the expected date of entry into the graduate program. The Graduate School requires a minimum cumulative GPA of 3.0 on a 4.0 GPA scale or in the last 60 credit hours in the previous undergraduate or graduate coursework.
