The Master of Education (MEd) in special education requires completing 36 semester hours beyond a bachelor's degree. The curriculum consists of a 12-hour core with 6 hours dedicated to research and analysis courses, plus 6 hours covering fundamental special education topics like legal considerations and practical learning theories. Students then choose their remaining courses from two specialization tracks. The instructional and behavioral support track offers advanced training in creating, implementing, and overseeing educational and behavioral interventions in school environments. This specialization includes a 12-hour course series concentrating on applying behavior analysis techniques in academic settings. Alternatively, the assessment and evaluation track provides advanced instruction in evaluating both individual students and school programs. Graduates completing this track qualify for state certification as educational diagnosticians.
