Physician assistants (PAs) deliver healthcare services under physician supervision, handling many of the same responsibilities as doctors. Their duties encompass patient history collection, conducting physical examinations, requesting laboratory tests and imaging studies, establishing preliminary diagnoses, developing treatment strategies, prescribing medications, carrying out medical procedures, and supporting surgical operations. PAs can focus on various medical or surgical specialties and benefit from career flexibility, allowing them to transition between specialties without requiring extra certification.
The Master of Science in Physician Assistant Studies program at LIU Brooklyn pioneered as the first state-approved program in the area. Graduates who complete the program qualify for PA registration and become eligible to take the national certification exam offered by the National Commission on the Certification of Physician Assistants (NCCPA).
