Forensic science applies scientific methods and technological advancements to legal investigations. At LIU, we equip you for diverse careers in crime laboratories, including roles as crime scene analysts, police evidence specialists, and related positions. As a forensic professional, you'll utilize cutting-edge scientific techniques to address critical issues like criminal investigations and life-saving interventions. The essence of forensic science lies in reconstructing past events to uncover the identities, actions, timelines, locations, and motives behind criminal cases. Your investigative work will encompass analyzing DNA samples, bodily fluids, fabric materials, shoe impressions, tire marks, questioned documents, flammable substances, environmental contaminants, and numerous other evidentiary materials.
LIU Post's Bachelor of Science in Forensic Science program readies students for fulfilling laboratory careers across various settings, including law enforcement agencies, coroner's offices, and toxicology/pathology departments. The curriculum combines theoretical instruction with practical lab sessions and real-world fieldwork. Students explore multiple forensic disciplines such as molecular pathology, criminal investigation techniques, genetic analysis, and forensic anthropology. Instruction is provided by active forensic practitioners, healthcare experts, and LIU Post faculty specializing in biomedical sciences, chemistry, criminal justice, and forensic studies. Furthermore, students gain practical experience through internships at high-volume forensic facilities, public health departments, and medical examiner offices throughout Long Island and Manhattan.
