The 120-credit Bachelor of Science in Adolescence Education: Chemistry develops future chemistry educators who can foster student achievement in understanding and applying chemical concepts. This curriculum provides the scientific expertise and pedagogical foundation to inspire middle and high school learners across different ability levels. Through supervised student teaching at two grade bands (7-9 and 10-12), you'll gain hands-on classroom experience, observe licensed educators, engage with students, and explore adolescent learning approaches to chemistry.
Upon fulfilling all degree components, passing New York's licensure exams (EAS and CST), and completing mandatory certification workshops, you'll receive Initial teaching certification from NYSED for Adolescence Education: Chemistry. For current certification updates, consult the NYSED certification portal (www.highered.nysed.gov/tcert/).
This Chemistry Education BS program represents a collaboration between LIU Post's College of Education, Information and Technology and the College of Liberal Arts and Sciences. The Department of Teaching and Learning's educator preparation programs hold national accreditation from CAEP (Council for the Accreditation of Educator Preparation).
