The 24-credit Advanced Certificate in Mental Health Counseling is designed for individuals holding a master's in counseling who seek to fulfill the academic prerequisites for mental health counselor licensure. Applicants must demonstrate completed coursework in key areas including ethics, counseling theories, human growth, therapeutic techniques, group dynamics, assessment methods, and career guidance through their academic records. This specialized program enhances foundational knowledge with targeted training for clinical environments, covering essential topics like mental health counseling principles, research methodologies, evidence-based interventions, program assessment, psychological disorders, and medication effects. It meets New York State's academic criteria for Mental Health Counselor licensure, which additionally requires 3,000 supervised clinical hours and successful completion of the National Clinical Mental Health Counseling Examination for full certification.
