This certificate program enhances social science and humanities graduate students' preparation for academic and non-academic careers by focusing on two key areas: 1) exploring documentary film's historical evolution and unique characteristics, particularly its ability to engage wide audiences and effectively share research-based knowledge with the public, and 2) guiding students through the documentary creation process—from topic selection and narrative planning to conducting interviews, capturing diverse shots, and assembling final digital productions. The program adopts an inclusive definition of documentary film, encompassing everything from YouTube-style social media content to full-length theatrical releases. Available to graduate students across all Humanities and Social Sciences departments, the initiative collaborates with campus resources like the Center for Innovation in Teaching and Learning and the Digital Media Studio.
