To earn a Ph.D., candidates must successfully pass a qualifying examination conducted by the Polymer Education Committee, complete approved graduate coursework as outlined by their doctoral committee, pass a comprehensive exam administered by the Polymer Education Committee, and successfully defend a dissertation in polymer science and engineering before their doctoral committee. Those with gaps in polymer science or related areas may need to complete additional coursework as determined by their committee. The doctoral committee includes the research advisor, a minimum of two additional members from the Center for Polymer Science and Engineering, and at least one external member. The Polymer Education Committee and the University's Graduate and Research Committee must approve the committee's composition.
