At Lehigh, the Department of Earth and Environmental Sciences (EES) serves as the hub for academic exploration and scientific investigation in ecology, geology, and environmental studies. Students can pursue either a Bachelor of Arts or Bachelor of Science degree in Earth and Environmental Sciences, along with a minor option. Our department explores the dynamic interplay between human actions and natural processes that mold our planet's ecosystems. Since human civilization relies on natural resources while simultaneously altering them, we believe comprehensive environmental literacy is essential for informed citizenship. An EES education provides strong foundations for scientific careers as well as diverse professional paths including corporate, legal, media, and public policy fields. Through our curriculum, students gain fundamental knowledge in environmental science, geology, and ecological studies, all framed within contemporary earth systems science perspectives. Our rigorous academic programs equip graduates for numerous career trajectories, spanning both scientific research and practical applications, as well as broader opportunities in legal, governmental, and corporate sectors.
