The Peace Officers Training Academy undergraduate certificate equips students for careers as law enforcement professionals in Ohio. To enroll in this program, students must gain admission to Kent State's Basic Peace Officer Academy. The curriculum encompasses essential training in defensive techniques, firearm handling, patrol operations, traffic management, civil disturbance response, and emergency medical care.

Participants develop skills in criminal investigation procedures while studying core principles of police work, the legal framework, constitutional rights, and national security measures. Upon finishing both the certificate program and academy training, graduates qualify to sit for Ohio's law enforcement certification exam. Those who complete the certificate can transition into Kent State's Associate of Applied Science degree program in Criminology and Justice Studies.
