The Master of Education in Special Education equips students with in-depth knowledge of current research and practical approaches in the field. This program attracts professionals seeking to enhance their expertise, advance their careers, take on leadership positions, drive advocacy efforts, or prepare for doctoral studies. While an undergraduate degree in education isn't required, applicants should demonstrate strong interest in expanding their knowledge of special education principles and practices.
This M.Ed. program doesn't lead to teacher certification, though some courses may fulfill licensure requirements. Those pursuing both the degree and certification must apply separately to both the master's program and the non-degree licensure preparation track.
The Early Childhood Intervention Specialist concentration specifically addresses the developmental needs of children from birth through fifth grade (ages 0-10) who have or are at risk for disabilities, along with their family support systems.
