The Master of Arts in Studio Art is designed for students with prior art or design education who seek to further develop expertise in a specialized studio area (such as textiles, sculpture, printmaking, painting, jewelry/metals/enameling, glass, drawing, or ceramics). This program can help students create a professional portfolio for M.F.A. applications, advance their current careers, or refine technical abilities for industry applications.
The Textiles specialization places textile arts at the forefront of modern artistic practice while promoting cross-disciplinary studio work. Under faculty guidance, students cultivate their creative vision while utilizing the program's extensive textile resources. Individual artistic development is framed by exploring the historical contexts, cultural significance, and societal narratives within the field, alongside traditional art history. The curriculum combines hands-on studio work, art historical study, intensive summer workshops, and educational trips to New York City
