The Bachelor of Science in Actuarial Mathematics equips students for careers in the actuarial field. Actuaries specialize in risk assessment, forecasting probable future occurrences and calculating their financial consequences. They develop innovative strategies to reduce potential negative outcomes. While insurance and finance are primary employers, actuaries also serve in diverse sectors like transportation, healthcare, manufacturing, environmental services, and government agencies.

This interdisciplinary major combines rigorous mathematics and statistics training with essential business, technology, and communication coursework. Kent State University holds the prestigious UCAP-AC accreditation from the Society of Actuaries, a distinction shared by only three other Ohio institutions. The curriculum provides comprehensive preparation for the initial four professional actuarial certification exams.
