The Bachelor of Fine Arts in Musical Theatre program equips students with professional skills for careers in musical theater. Hands-on training and artistic opportunities are combined with a broad liberal arts education and studies in theater history, theory, and critique.
Participants can audition for and perform in the university's theater and dance productions. Kent State's Center for the Performing Arts features three theaters, practice rooms, a costume department, and specialized labs for costume design, technical drawing, lighting, and set construction. The School of Theatre and Dance also manages the open-air Porthouse Theatre.
During their final year, students have the opportunity to take part in the New York City Musical Theatre Showcase, presenting their talents to potential casting professionals, talent representatives, and theatrical agents.
