Candidates need to hold a bachelor's degree from an accredited university, with relevant coursework and a minimum B average during their junior and senior years or demonstrate outstanding performance in postgraduate studies elsewhere. Provisional acceptance may be granted if applicants have minor gaps in undergraduate requirements that can be fulfilled through Kansas State University courses, or when transcript evaluations are inconclusive, particularly for international students. The provisional status is lifted after completing 9 credit hours with at least a B average.
Required coursework at both undergraduate and graduate levels should encompass analytical, organic, and physical chemistry, calculus, physics, and a biology course with lab. While physical chemistry can be completed during an M.S. or Ph.D. program, all other missing prerequisites must be fulfilled without counting toward graduate credits. Knowledge of a foreign language is not mandatory.
