Environment-Behavior and Place Studies (EBPS) explores how people interact with their surroundings and how these relationships influence design and research. The program investigates diverse philosophical and methodological perspectives on environment-behavior dynamics and place experiences. These approaches span from quantitative, analytical research methods rooted in pragmatic problem-solving to qualitative, interpretive styles grounded in continental philosophy. Students tailor their coursework and research to align with personal interests, building upon a foundational curriculum. They may specialize in specific environmental challenges, blend multiple approaches, or focus on areas like inclusive community design, landscape perception, project development, or customized study paths that support their professional aspirations. Through advisor-guided course selection, students integrate electives from across disciplines to support their specialized focus areas.
