Students accepted into the Chemistry graduate program need to choose a study plan from available options, comprising a minimum of 20 graduate-level course credits. These may span all chemistry disciplines, with at least 16 credits specifically in Chemistry coursework. The program mandates 90 semester hours in total, including 50 research hours for bachelor's degree entrants and 36 hours for those with a master's. Applicants with a relevant master's degree may apply 30 credits toward the doctoral requirement.
The Ph.D. preliminary examination includes written cumulative tests focused on the student's specialization area, along with an oral defense of a research proposal presented to their advisory committee. To earn the Ph.D., candidates must submit a written dissertation and successfully defend it orally before their supervisory committee.
