The Ph.D. in Agricultural Economics is a collaborative program between the Department of Agricultural Economics and the Department of Economics. This 90-credit doctoral program allows students with a relevant master's degree to transfer up to 30 credits. The curriculum covers economic theory, research methods, core agricultural economics principles, and specialized areas such as agribusiness, international development, natural resources, market analysis, farm management, regional economics, and trade policy. The degree requires 60 graduate-level course credits (including applicable master's thesis credits) plus 30 research credits for the doctoral dissertation. At least 24 credits must be completed at Kansas State University.
Students must complete coursework in four key areas: economic theory, research methods, general agricultural economics, and a chosen specialization. An optional minor field may also be included in the study plan.
