The Master's in Data Science program at Johns Hopkins University is an on-campus initiative designed to equip students with comprehensive training in applied mathematics, statistics, and computer science. This foundation enables students to grasp and utilize current data science methodologies effectively. Our curriculum cultivates future data science pioneers by focusing on the expertise required to transform real-world data challenges into mathematical frameworks, then addressing them through a versatile array of scientific approaches. The culminating Capstone Project in Data Science (EN.553.806) involves a research-based endeavor requiring approval from the student's research supervisor, academic advisor, and Internal Oversight Committee. While students may spread this project across several semesters, they must complete six (6) total credits to fulfill the requirement. This final course and accompanying paper enable learners to implement data analysis methods acquired throughout the program, potentially expanding these concepts to broader contexts or novel applications. The project concludes with a poster presentation during an end-of-semester showcase event.
