The trombone instructors at Peabody Conservatory include performers from the Baltimore Symphony and National Symphony Orchestras.
As working orchestral players, these educators provide students with contemporary professional insights while enhancing their education through diverse, valuable experiences.
Peabody's Trombone Department usually maintains six to eight tenor trombonists and three bass trombonists. This limited class size ensures individualized attention from primary instructors. Each semester, trombone students receive fourteen private lessons. The department also holds studio classes where students refine orchestral section skills, explore performance and audition techniques, participate in mock auditions, and work together for solo recitals. Annual performances feature the Peabody Trombone Choir under David Murray's direction, with recent appearances at the Towson University Trombone Workshop, Peabody's Friday Noon:30 Concert Series, and local churches. The Master of Music program focuses on advancing performance abilities, deepening repertoire knowledge in the major field, and expanding artistic understanding.
