The Biochemistry and Molecular Biology PhD program fosters collaboration between faculty and students to deepen understanding of cellular processes at molecular levels, both in normal and disease states. This program equips students to become autonomous researchers, providing them with essential knowledge, laboratory experience, and leadership abilities to address critical biomedical challenges affecting global health.
Participants follow a demanding academic schedule while benefiting from diverse extracurricular opportunities that enhance their professional development. They conduct thesis projects under the guidance of more than forty faculty members spanning the Johns Hopkins Bloomberg School of Public Health and School of Medicine.
Graduates of the Biochemistry and Molecular Biology PhD program will achieve proficiency in:
Analyzing public health challenges connected to major mortality factors, particularly cancer
Developing competitive research proposals meeting NIH grant standards
Constructing and substantiating scientific arguments using published research and presentation skills
Formulating testable research hypotheses
Interpreting and assessing primary scientific literature in biochemistry and cellular/molecular biology
