Through computing research and education, you'll develop expertise in core and applied computing disciplines with an emphasis on data-driven science, engineering, medicine, cybersecurity, linguistics, and robotics. You'll gain skills to evaluate complex computational challenges and implement solutions across various fields.
Our BS curriculum caters to students seeking rigorous technical training, while our BA program allows for combining computer science with liberal arts disciplines. Many Homewood campus students pursue computer science as a second major alongside other fields.
Students can earn either a Bachelor of Science (B.S.) or Bachelor of Arts (B.A.) in computer science. Both degrees mandate coursework in computer science, mathematics, natural sciences, humanities, and social sciences. The B.S. emphasizes technical depth with more rigorous computer science requirements, while the B.A. offers a balanced liberal arts approach. Both programs allow customization through diverse course selections or specialized focus areas aligned with departmental research strengths: big data, computational biology, computing fundamentals, cybersecurity, natural language processing, robotics, systems/networking, as well as career tracks in software development and entrepreneurship. Our undergraduate programs equip students for departmental research opportunities, summer internships, and future careers in industry or graduate studies.
